DEVELOPER / THE EVERYDAY TOOLKIT
URL Encoder / Decoder.
Encode URL components or decode percent-encoded text. This is a free utility from my portfolio toolkit, with local browser processing and no account required.
Uses encodeURIComponent and decodeURIComponent. Encode a component, not a complete URL. A + sign is not interpreted as a space when decoding.
SIMPLE BY DESIGN
How to use URL Encoder / Decoder
- Paste the individual value you want to place in a URL, rather than the complete address.
- Choose Encode component, or choose Decode component for an existing percent-encoded value.
- Copy the result into the appropriate URL parameter and check that it is encoded only once.
Keep a query value from becoming URL syntax.
A space, ampersand or question mark can have special meaning inside a URL. Component encoding turns those characters into percent-encoded bytes so a value stays a value. For example, encode a search phrase before placing it after a query key. This utility uses UTF-8 component encoding and never visits the URL. When building a complete query string, URLSearchParams is usually more convenient than manually concatenating encoded strings.
A FEW THINGS TO KNOW
A little more clarity.
Why does a plus sign stay a plus sign?
decodeURIComponent does not apply form-style plus-to-space conversion. The Query String Parser uses URLSearchParams when you need that behavior.
Is my input sent to a server?
No. This utility processes your input in your browser. URLs you paste are treated as data; the tool does not fetch them. Be careful with clipboard history on shared devices.
