DEVELOPER / THE EVERYDAY TOOLKIT

Text Difference Checker.

Compare two texts and inspect line additions and removals. This is a free utility from my portfolio toolkit, with local browser processing and no account required.

Line-based comparison: + is an addition, - is a removal. Whitespace matters. Compare at most 500 lines per input. This does not merge files automatically.

SIMPLE BY DESIGN

How to use Text Difference Checker

  1. Paste the old version in Original text and the new version in Updated text.
  2. Generate the comparison and follow the + and - prefixes.
  3. Review whitespace-sensitive changes before copying the result into a review note.

See line changes instead of reading both drafts twice.

Paste an original and updated text to find line-level differences using a longest-common-subsequence comparison. Unchanged lines receive a space prefix, removals a minus and additions a plus. The utility is useful for reviewing configuration examples, short drafts or lists, with up to 500 lines per side. It intentionally does not normalize whitespace, compare binary files or merge changes, because those choices can hide meaningful edits.

A FEW THINGS TO KNOW

A little more clarity.

Is this a word-by-word comparison?

No. It compares complete lines. A changed word makes that line appear as a removal and an addition.

Is my input sent to a server?

No. This utility processes your input in your browser. URLs you paste are treated as data; the tool does not fetch them. Be careful with clipboard history on shared devices.
